What Is Custom CSS?

I often talk about custom CSS when providing my clients with a quote for a web design but I realised that I rarely take the time to fully explain what it is and why you need it…

Custom CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is a method of adding stylistic instructions for your website to its back-end code. The great thing about programmes like Squarespace and Shopify is that they do the coding for us, they take all the confusion out of building a website and turn it into an attractive functional user friendly platform, the first time I used Squarespace I was in total awe of its functionality and how easily I could use the site. But quite quickly I noticed there was a limit to how creative I could be. The site became a bit rigid.

ENTER CSS!!!

With a few coding classes and some creativity in Illustrator I am able to make animations dance around a screen, things can spin, hover, move as I scroll. I can change colours and buttons and generally do a lot more customisation. Its a far more time consuming task but if you ask me, its worth every minute to make a website standout and be original to your brand.
